Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics assists with foot-and-mouth disease crisis
The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) has announced its support for the Veterinary Services to address the current foot-and-mouth disease crisis. Following an official request from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the institute will provide laboratory diagnostic support to increase sample analysis capacity. The initiative involves doctoral students from CING who will work on laboratory procedures for a period of four weeks. This effort is coordinated by CING's General Executive and Medical Director, Professor Leonidas Phylaktou, Head of the Molecular Virology Department Dr. Jan Richter, and Dean Dr. Petros Petrou. The institute stated that this collaboration utilizes the expertise gained by the Molecular Virology Department during the COVID-19 pandemic. The support is deemed necessary due to increased diagnostic demands and limited resources within the veterinary sector. The goal of the collaboration is to ensure rapid and effective testing to manage the ongoing outbreak.
