Political tensions rise following allegations of corruption by journalist Makarios Drousiotis

Journalist and author Makarios Drousiotis has made serious public allegations regarding corruption and a so-called 'brotherhood' involving AKEL, Odysseas Michaelides, ALMA, and Volt. In response, the Democratic Rally (DISY) party has accused these entities of systematically attempting to destabilize the country and has urged Drousiotis to submit his evidence to the police immediately. Former Supreme Court judge Michalis Christodoulou rejected the allegations against him as false, labeling the cited text messages as fabricated and announcing plans to file a complaint against Drousiotis. President Nikos Christodoulides addressed the situation, stating that the government is taking the claims seriously and that Drousiotis has been summoned by the police to provide evidence. The President emphasized that the state must function according to the rule of law rather than social media discourse. Meanwhile, AKEL has dismissed DISY's accusations as a sign of panic, reiterating their own demand to reopen the case involving a surveillance van. The investigation process remains ongoing as authorities await the submission of formal documentation from the journalist.
