Author Makarios Drousiotis submits evidence to police amid political backlash

Author and journalist Makarios Drousiotis, a Volt candidate, has begun providing testimony to the Cyprus Police regarding allegations of a corruption network involving former judges, lawyers, and politicians. Drousiotis claims he possesses audio recordings and further evidence to substantiate his reports of institutional corruption and sexual assault involving a person referred to by the pseudonym 'Santi'. Former judge Michalakis Christodoulou has categorically denied all allegations, labeling them fiction and disclosing that 'Santi' is a woman named Kyriaki whom he helped as a family friend. Meanwhile, the Democratic Rally party (DISY) has accused a political 'brotherhood' consisting of AKEL, Volt, the Alma movement, and former Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides of attempting to destabilize the country. DISY specifically criticized Michaelides, citing Supreme Court rulings against him, while the other parties responded by accusing DISY of panic and deflection. The Diko party has called for an immediate investigation, stating that if the allegations are proven false, those involved in spreading toxicity must be held accountable. A special police unit has been established to investigate the claims thoroughly.
