Cyprus legal and political institutions react to Drousiotis corruption allegations

Journalist Makarios Drousiotis has published allegations of widespread corruption, collusion, and sexual abuse involving high-ranking officials, judges, and private figures in Cyprus. The Cyprus Bar Association has formally called for an immediate and thorough investigation by state authorities into these claims, noting that no such complaints were previously filed before their council. Former Supreme Court judge Michalakis Christodoulou has categorically denied the allegations of sexual abuse and corruption, dismissing the evidence as fabricated. Christodoulou confirmed he intends to file a police report against Drousiotis for defamation and falsified documents, stating he knew the primary witness as 'Kyriaki' rather than 'Sandy' and provided only paternal-like support. Meanwhile, AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stefanou has written to the President of Cyprus demanding the reopening of a separate investigation regarding a 'spy van' case. This political standoff has intensified tensions between the ruling DISY party and opposition groups, with both sides calling for judicial clarity.
