Three Indonesian UN peacekeepers killed in southern Lebanon
Three Indonesian peacekeepers serving with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were killed in two separate incidents in southern Lebanon. The first soldier died overnight between Sunday and March 2, following a projectile strike near the village of Adchit al-Qusayr, which also left another peacekeeper critically injured. A second incident on Monday involved an explosion that destroyed a UN vehicle near Bani Hayyan, killing two additional Indonesian soldiers and wounding two others. UNIFIL is currently investigating both events separately. Indonesia has called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting and demanded a thorough, transparent investigation. UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attacks, stating they may constitute war crimes. While Indonesia attributed the violence to ongoing Israeli military operations, the Israeli military stated it is reviewing the incidents to determine if they were caused by Hezbollah or Israeli fire. The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has been ongoing since March 2.
