Cyprus records double the average March rainfall

According to preliminary data from the Department of Meteorology, rainfall in the free areas of Cyprus reached 182% of the monthly average between March 1 and March 30, 2024. The average total rainfall for this period was 112.5 millimeters, compared to the normal monthly average of 61.9 millimeters. Significant precipitation was recorded in several regions, with Stavros tis Psokas receiving 253 millimeters, or 217% of its average. Other areas experiencing high rainfall include Pano Panagia with 204.5 millimeters (200%), Platania with 201.5 millimeters (179%), Saittas with 179.5 millimeters (215%), and Prodromos with 176.7 millimeters (147%). These figures represent a substantial deviation from standard climatic expectations for the month. The data reflects measurements recorded up to 9 a.m. on March 30. No incidents or damage reports were included in the meteorological bulletin.
