Recent wave of drone and missile strikes between Russia and Ukraine
On April 4, 2026, a Russian drone strike on a market in Nikopol killed five people and injured between 19 and 25 others, according to local authorities and the Prosecutor General's Office. Russia launched a massive aerial assault involving hundreds of drones and missiles across Ukraine, with Kiev reporting at least ten deaths in various regions including Bucha, Kherson, Sumy, Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, and Kramatorsk. Ukrainian officials stated that Russia deployed roughly 500 projectiles, while the Ukrainian military reported intercepting large numbers of incoming drones. Separately, Ukrainian drone strikes have targeted Russian energy infrastructure, specifically oil facilities in the Leningrad region, including Ust-Luga and Primorsk, since late March. Russian officials reported injuries to civilians in the Leningrad region as a result of these strikes. These events follow a pattern of intense military escalation and significant infrastructure damage on both sides.
