Cyprus University of Technology signs agreement for new school in Larnaca
On Friday, April 3, the Municipality of Larnaca and the Cyprus University of Technology (Tepak) signed an agreement to construct a new building for the School of Marine Sciences, Technology and Sustainable Development. The project, located near the Mackenzie parking area, will cover 4,960 square metres and is estimated to cost €11.9 million, excluding VAT. Funding is secured through a loan from the European Investment Bank to the Republic of Cyprus and the university. The facility will include amphitheatres, laboratories, and specialized IT infrastructure, aiming to accommodate between 400 and 500 students. Construction tenders are expected to be announced by the end of April, with an estimated completion timeline of two years from the start of works. The school is scheduled to open in autumn 2028, featuring two departments: Marine Sciences and Technology, and Sustainable Development. During the ceremony, representatives highlighted the project as a move from planning to implementation, aiming to establish Cyprus as a regional hub for education and research. While officials noted the capacity for 500 students, the university rector clarified that the school will host around 400 students once programs are fully developed.
