Officials mark anniversaries in Nicosia and discuss Cyprus reunification

On Monday, an event was held in Nicosia by the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation to commemorate the anniversaries of March 25, 1821, and April 1, 1955. Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Athena Michaelidou represented the President of the Republic at the ceremony. During her address, she emphasized the necessity of intensifying efforts to achieve justice in Cyprus, citing the ongoing Turkish occupation. Archbishop Georgios advocated for reclassifying the Cyprus issue strictly as a problem of invasion and occupation. Greek Ambassador Konstantinos Kollias reaffirmed that ending the occupation and achieving the reunification of Cyprus remain the primary national objectives. Minister Michaelidou stated that the historical anniversaries highlight the continuity of the Greek and Cypriot states as pillars of regional stability. She stressed the importance of unity in safeguarding Cyprus's evolutionary path and pursuit of peaceful liberation. The event focused on diplomatic efforts as the primary means to resolve the political situation.
