Cyprus reports Turkish military violations to the UN
The Republic of Cyprus has formally notified the UN Secretary-General regarding a series of alleged violations of its national airspace, territorial waters, and international air traffic regulations. The documentation, circulated as UN Security Council document S/2026/240, covers incidents recorded during January and February 2026. Official reports specify 305 air violations and 33 naval violations. Among the air incidents, 81 involved Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles and 44 involved armed fighter jets. Cyprus asserts that Turkey conducted unauthorized military exercises and issued four illegal Notams without proper coordination with the Nicosia Area Control Center. Identified military assets include Bayraktar TB-2, Anka, Akinci, and Aksungur UAVs, F-16 and RF-4 fighter aircraft, various military transport planes, and helicopters. Nicosia maintains these actions infringe upon its sovereignty and territorial integrity, though Turkey has not officially responded in this documentation.
