Greek basketball player Vassilis Goumas dies at 79

Vassilis Goumas, a prominent figure in Greek basketball, passed away at the age of 79. Born in Volos in 1946, he had a professional career spanning from 1961 to 1988. Throughout his career, he played for Panellinios, AEK Athens, and Ilisiakos, as well as clubs in South Africa including Olympiacos Addis Ababa, the Johannesburg Athletic Club, and the Lourenço Marques Athletic Club. Goumas was a member of the Greek national team between 1966 and 1975. He won the Greek Cup with AEK in 1981 and secured the title of top scorer in the Greek championship four times in 1970, 1974, 1975, and 1977. He is recognized as the second-highest scorer in the history of the Greek A' Ethniki, recording a total of 11,030 points. His long tenure at Panellinios was split between several periods from 1962 to 1979 before moving to AEK for the 1979-1985 period and finishing his career at Ilisiakos from 1985 to 1988.
