Ethnikos Achnas vs Anorthosis match removed from betting platforms amid match-fixing concerns
The match between Ethnikos Achnas and Anorthosis, scheduled for Sunday, April 5, was removed from all licensed betting platforms in Cyprus. The National Betting Authority took this precautionary measure following significant and suspicious fluctuations in betting odds. The Committee for Ethics and Protection of Sports has initiated a close monitoring process in collaboration with police authorities. This decision comes after public complaints regarding the integrity of matches in the second group of the league, specifically raised by the clubs Akritas Chlorakas and Olympiakos Nicosia. Anorthosis Famagusta subsequently sent a formal letter to the Ethics Committee requesting a full investigation into these allegations. The club also requested that all its matches be removed from betting markets to ensure transparency. Committee President Stefanos Skordis stated that while they lack the authority to unilaterally remove games, they are monitoring the situation closely and conducting four active investigations.
