Ethics committee monitors potential match-fixing concerns in Cypriot football

The Cyprus Ethics and Protection of Sport Committee (EDPA) has announced a close monitoring of the play-out matches in the second phase of the First Division Football Championship. This action follows public allegations and official statements from two clubs, Olympiakos Nicosia and Akritas Chlorakas, regarding potential match-fixing and concerns over the integrity of the tournament. On March 31, the committee held a meeting to address these reports after the clubs publicly requested investigations into the fairness and transparency of the games. The committee confirmed that it has already contacted representatives of the involved clubs to seek further clarifications. Furthermore, the EDPA is coordinating its efforts with the police and other relevant authorities to evaluate any incoming information. The goal of this collaboration is to ensure the integrity of the league and to prevent any future violations. No specific matches were officially cited as fixed, but the authorities have vowed to take necessary measures should evidence of malpractice arise.
