Limassol to upgrade water network as part of national water resilience plan
The Limassol District Self-Government Organisation (EOA) is launching a €9.2 million project to modernize the city's aging water supply network. Funded by the EU's Thalia 2021-2027 Cohesion Policy programme, the project involves replacing old pipelines with approximately 100 km of new, modern piping across three major urban areas, including zones from Enaerios to the central fire station and along the Garyllis river. Construction is set to begin soon with an estimated duration of 24 months, scheduled to occur in phases to avoid water supply interruptions. This initiative is part of a broader €230 million national strategy to improve sustainable water management and resilience against drought across Cyprus. In addition to the Limassol project, the national plan includes the construction of new reservoirs in areas such as Kato Polemidia, Yermasoyia, and Agia Fyla, as well as a €31 million project to transfer potable water from the Dhekelia desalination plant to the Kokkinokremmos hill. These infrastructure investments aim to reduce water losses, prevent frequent system failures, and increase storage capacity to ensure long-term service reliability for consumers.
