Cyprus government approves subsidy scheme for pig farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease
The Cypriot Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment has announced a support scheme for the pig farming sector following the impact of foot-and-mouth disease restrictions. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the plan to assist producers in maintaining unit viability and market liquidity during the crisis. Financial aid of up to €54 per fattening pig sent to slaughter is available to eligible farmers. Each individual or legal entity may receive a maximum of €50,000 in support. The total budget allocated for this initiative is €340,000, funded by the Department of Agriculture. Eligible participants must be registered pig farm owners who take part in the annual pig survey. The application process is currently open at regional agricultural offices. Interested parties must submit their requests by the deadline of April 2.
