Death of Cypriot artist and author Andreas Karayan at 83

The prominent Cypriot artist, author, and photographer Andreas Karayan passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the age of 83. Born in Nicosia in 1943, Karayan originally studied medicine in Athens before transitioning to the arts, studying painting and printmaking in London and Stuttgart. The funeral service is scheduled for Monday, March 30, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church near Paphos Gate in Nicosia. The family will receive condolences starting at 11:30 a.m. Following the service, the burial will take place at the Catholic Cemetery in Larnaca. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Cyprus Red Cross and ACCEPT LGBT Cyprus. Karayan returned to Cyprus in 1978 and gained recognition for his contributions to both visual arts and literature.
