Murder trial of Alexandros Antoniou adjourned until May 2026

The trial of a 58-year-old man accused of the premeditated murder of 26-year-old Alexandros Antoniou has been adjourned by the Paphos Criminal Court. The proceedings are rescheduled for May 12, 2026, at 09:30. The defendant will remain in custody pending the next hearing, where he is expected to enter a plea. The prosecution, represented by Andreas Hatzikyrou, requested the delay citing the need to finalize forensic expert reports and video evidence documenting the incident. The incident occurred on the evening of November 19, 2025, in the village of Konia. Police evidence previously presented to the Paphos District Court included CCTV footage showing an attacker opening the victim's car door and striking him. While the defense attorney Ilias Stefanou did not object to the postponement, he requested all additional evidentiary material be provided before the next hearing. Prosecutors argued for continued detention based on the severity of the offense and the risk of the defendant failing to appear. Genetic material linked to the suspect was reportedly recovered from the victim's vehicle seat.
