Cat goes missing during transit at Larnaca and Athens airports
On March 28, 2026, a male cat named Bibi, which is blind in one eye, went missing during transit from Larnaca Airport to a final destination with a stopover in Athens. Although two cats were initially placed in an IATA-approved transport crate, only one arrived at the final destination. The Green Party's animal action group, represented by Anthi Mouzouri, stated that the crate was secured and inspected prior to unloading to prevent escapes. Searches are currently underway at both Larnaca and Athens airports to locate the animal. The incident mirrors a case from September 2025, when another cat named Mika went missing at Larnaca Airport and was found nine days later. Animal rights advocates have called for an immediate investigation by all involved authorities to address the lapse in security. Authorities have requested that anyone with information regarding the cat's whereabouts, particularly those at Larnaca Airport, come forward immediately.
