Road tax renewal deadline set for March 31, 2026

The Department of Road Transport has announced that the deadline for renewing vehicle road tax for 2026 is March 31, 2026. After this date, renewals will be subject to a penalty consisting of a €10 fee plus 10% of the calculated road tax amount for the current year. Officials are urging citizens to complete the renewal process promptly to avoid last-minute delays or system congestion. In addition, the authorities confirmed that the process for refunding excess charges to vehicle owners who renewed their licenses on March 12 and 13, 2026, is currently underway. These refunds are being processed in accordance with the standard procedures of the Treasury of the Republic. The department emphasizes that compliance with the deadline is essential to avoid additional financial penalties. All vehicle owners are advised to ensure their tax discs are updated before the end of the day on March 31, 2026.
