Recent road traffic accidents and police operations in Cyprus
A series of road traffic incidents occurred across Cyprus this week. On Wednesday morning, a 68-year-old driver was critically injured in a collision on Priamou Street in Paphos involving a vehicle with a 27-year-old driver and two passengers aged 31 and 39; the victim remains in the intensive care unit at Nicosia General Hospital. Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, another incident occurred on the road to Athienou where a vehicle overturned into a ditch, requiring a rescue operation to free the trapped driver who was then taken to Larnaca Hospital. Separately, the Nicosia-Limassol highway saw temporary lane closures near the GSP stadium following a collision between a private vehicle and a police patrol car during a pursuit of a suspect smuggling illicit tobacco. Additionally, a three-vehicle collision on the Limassol-Agros road near Gerasa caused temporary traffic disruptions on Tuesday morning with no serious injuries reported. Investigations into the causes of these accidents are ongoing by local authorities. Police continue to monitor the status of the injured parties while managing traffic flow in affected areas.
