Investigation follows death of 82-year-old man in Koufalia, Thessaloniki

An 82-year-old man was found dead in his home in Koufalia, Thessaloniki, on Saturday, March 28. His 77-year-old wife has been arrested and charged with failure to provide assistance under Article 307 of the Penal Code, as investigators report the man remained on the floor for hours without medical aid. The couple had a prior history of legal disputes, including a recent domestic violence complaint filed by the husband against his wife. Although the wife was previously acquitted in a separate domestic violence case due to doubt, she was currently under a restraining order to stay away from the victim. A forensic pathologist examined the scene but could not immediately determine the exact cause of death, pending a full autopsy. The suspect remains in police custody in Thessaloniki and is scheduled to appear before a prosecutor and a local misdemeanor court. Authorities are investigating whether the wife is directly involved in the death or if her failure to call for help contributed to the outcome.
