Fire service reports series of incidents across Cyprus

The Cyprus Fire Service responded to a series of incidents over the past weekend, managing 33 cases in a single 24-hour period. At 05:55 on Saturday, a gas leak caused a violent explosion in an auxiliary kitchen of a two-storey house in Strovolos, resulting in severe structural damage and burn injuries to the female owner. At 06:00, firefighters extinguished a boiler fire at a residence in Palouriotissa, with no injuries reported. Later, at 09:20, a kitchen fire occurred in Polemidia while the owner was replacing a gas cylinder, leading to extensive property damage and his precautionary transfer to the hospital. Finally, at 21:59, a fire involving discarded items in an abandoned stone-built house in Drouseia, Paphos, was successfully extinguished by emergency teams. Police are currently investigating the cause of the Drouseia incident. In total, the Fire Service handled 203 incidents throughout the week, including fires and special service calls.
