Cyclist arrested in Limassol for drug possession and assaulting police
On Saturday evening at approximately 7:30 p.m., a 33-year-old man was arrested in Limassol following a police attempt to perform a routine check. When patrolling officers signaled for the cyclist to stop, he attempted to flee, fell from his bicycle, and continued on foot. Upon being intercepted by the officers, the suspect reportedly attacked and pushed them before being successfully restrained. Following his arrest, a search revealed he was in possession of 26 packages of cannabis weighing a total of 20 grams, 19 packages of methamphetamine weighing 9 grams, and 442 euros in cash. The suspect was initially detained for charges including causing a disturbance, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer. Subsequently, he was re-arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of controlled substances with intent to supply. The Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) and the Ayios Ioannis Police Station are currently conducting further investigations into the case. The report regarding the arrest of a 14-year-old student with a weapon in a separate incident was excluded as it pertains to a different event.
