Alessandro Cazzola presents queer history project in Nicosia

From March 27 to 30, 2026, the Koraï space in Nicosia is hosting an exhibition titled 'My journey through your memories: Collecting queer memories from Cyprus' by Italian researcher and curator Alessandro Cazzola. The project aims to address the lack of institutional archiving of queer history in Cyprus by gathering stories, documents, and artifacts. Cazzola began the research during his first year of living in Cyprus, driven by a personal desire to understand his connection to the island. The work builds upon previous efforts to document local queer narratives, such as the 2024 exhibition 'nono, bad timing!' held at NiMAC. Cazzola characterizes the project as an external attempt by a foreigner to engage with the under-researched queer culture of the island. It serves as an open research process intended to foster community connections and support inclusive creative forms. The exhibition follows two decades of local activist, political, and cultural initiatives aimed at securing rights for the queer community.
