Funeral and public viewing held for legendary singer Marinella
The iconic Greek singer Marinella, born Kyriaki Papadopoulou, passed away on March 28, 2026, at the age of 87 at her home. Her death followed complications from a serious stroke she suffered on stage at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in September 2024. A public viewing of her remains was held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the chapel of Saint Eleftherios at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens from 8:00 to 13:00. The funeral service took place at 14:00 at the Metropolitan Cathedral, followed by a private burial in a close family circle. Her family requested that, in lieu of wreaths, donations be made to the 'Floga' association for children with neoplastic diseases. Numerous artists and public figures, including Nana Mouskouri and Takis Zacharatos, paid tribute to her career, which spanned over six decades. While some sources identify her age as 87, others mentioned 88 years old, though official reports confirm the date of passing as March 28.
