Funeral service held for legendary Greek singer Marinella
The funeral of iconic Greek singer Marinella, born Kyriaki Papadopoulou, took place on Tuesday, March 31, at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral. Marinella passed away on Saturday, March 28, at the age of 88, following health complications that began after a stroke suffered on stage at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in September 2024. A public viewing was held earlier in the day at the Chapel of Agios Eleftherios, allowing fans and colleagues to pay their final respects. During the service, artists Haris Alexiou and George Dalaras delivered eulogies, honoring her six-decade career and cultural impact. The family requested that donations be made to the 'Floga' association for children with neoplastic diseases in lieu of flowers. Following the funeral, the burial was scheduled to take place in a private, undisclosed location attended only by close family members. Numerous public figures and members of the artistic community were present to commemorate her legacy.
