Uefa fines Red Star Belgrade over stadium display
Uefa has imposed a fine of 95,500 euros on the Serbian football club Red Star Belgrade following a match against Lille on February 27. The disciplinary action was taken due to a tifo display featuring Saint Simeon and a banner with the message "May our faith lead you to victory." Supporters of the club, known as Delije, unveiled the imagery to mark a religious feast day. According to club reports, 40,000 euros of the total fine were specifically attributed to the display of a message deemed unsuitable for a sports event. Uefa cited the potential for the message to undermine the integrity and reputation of the sport. While the club views the penalty as excessive and controversial, the fine remains a result of Uefa regulations regarding stadium conduct. The match ended in a defeat for Red Star Belgrade.
