Series of incidents involving fires and vandalism reported across Cyprus
Authorities are investigating several incidents of vandalism and arson across Cyprus. In Limassol, a 46-year-old's vehicle was damaged by an improvised explosive device, while another motorcycle was intentionally set on fire near the Holy Cross Church in Polemidia on Sunday. On Monday night, approximately 90 to 100 youths on motorcycles caused public disturbance in Limassol by setting fires and throwing firecrackers, with police suggesting a link to informal military enlistment traditions. Additionally, in Strovolos, Nicosia, an abandoned building was set on fire in an act described by authorities as malicious. In a separate incident in Larnaca, individuals fired pyrotechnics at a police patrol vehicle that had responded to a report of a bin fire near the church of Ayios Afxentiou and Efstathiou. No injuries were reported in the Larnaca attack, and police investigations are ongoing across all locations to identify the perpetrators. No arrests have been made regarding the Limassol motorcycle disturbance.
