Police investigate criminal explosions in Deryneia and Paphos
The Famagusta Criminal Investigation Department is investigating a high-powered explosive attack that occurred at 1:30 am on Thursday outside the home of a 49-year-old businessman in Deryneia, causing damage to the garage door. The victim, who was inside with his family at the time, has no prior criminal record and authorities are currently reviewing CCTV and gathering witness statements to determine a motive. Separately, in Paphos, police arrested a 46-year-old man on Wednesday in connection with an explosion that occurred on March 30, 2026, at company offices. Investigations revealed the Paphos device contained a factory-made firecracker. Upon his arrest, the 46-year-old was also found in possession of 4.5 grams of cannabis and a knife. Additionally, firefighters in Paphos contained a blaze at an abandoned restaurant on Thursday morning and rescued a kitten, with the cause of the fire remaining under investigation. No injuries were reported in any of these incidents.
