Attempted murder of 34-year-old businessman in Protaras
A 34-year-old nightclub owner survived an assassination attempt shortly after midnight on Saturday, March 28, in Protaras, Cyprus. The victim was driving his Hummer along the Protaras-Cavo Greco Avenue when two assailants, allegedly hiding in a nearby field, opened fire near the Pernera traffic lights. At least four bullets struck the vehicle, but the man was not injured and escaped on foot back toward his business. Police reported that the victim is a known figure to local authorities. Roughly 30 minutes after the attack, a burning vehicle was discovered on the Ayia Napa-Rizoelia road within the British Bases territory. Investigators found a pistol and a magazine inside the burnt car, which had been reported stolen from Nicosia, and are examining whether it was used by the perpetrators. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities reviewing CCTV footage to determine the suspects' movements and the motive behind the attack.
