Cyberattacks reported on European Commission and Cyprus government entities

On March 24, 2026, the European Commission suffered a cyberattack targeting the cloud infrastructure of its Europa.eu platform, which hosts websites for major EU institutions. While the attack was contained, authorities confirmed a potential leakage of data from public websites, though internal systems remain unaffected. In parallel, reports in the Cypriot newspaper 'Politis' claimed that multiple state services in Cyprus, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, suffered data breaches and ransom demands. The Cypriot Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy formally denied these claims, stating there is no evidence of government system breaches or ransom demands. The Ministry acknowledged an increase in general cyberattack activity in both public and private sectors in Cyprus and across Europe. It is currently collaborating with the Digital Security Authority to monitor the situation.
