Inter Miami to name stadium stand after Lionel Messi

Inter Miami CF announced that a stand in their new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, will be named after current captain Lionel Messi. The stadium is scheduled to open on April 4 with a match against Austin FC, with reports on its capacity varying between 25,000 and 26,700 seats. Messi, who joined the club in 2023, has led the team to three titles: the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 Supporters’ Shield, and the MLS Cup. The 38-year-old Argentine has recorded 82 goals and 53 assists in 94 appearances for the club. Earlier this month, he reached the milestone of 900 career goals, becoming the second active player after Cristiano Ronaldo to achieve this. The club stated the naming tribute is unique because it honors an active player rather than a retired legend. The facility is co-owned by David Beckham.
