Animal abuse incident reported in Acheleia, Paphos
The Green Party – Citizens' Cooperation has reported a case of animal abuse in the village of Acheleia, Paphos, where a cat was found with a firearm pellet lodged in its nose. The organization describes the incident as part of a recurring pattern of violence against animals in the region. Anthi Mouzouri, coordinator of the party's Animal Action Group, has called on the public to provide any relevant information to the authorities. The party is demanding a thorough investigation and the identification of those responsible. Mouzouri criticized the current state of the Animal Police, arguing that the department is ineffective and failing to fulfill its core mandate. She called for the establishment of an independent, autonomous body dedicated solely to animal protection. The Green Party emphasizes that such acts of violence are criminal offenses under Cypriot law and undermine public trust in law enforcement agencies. Authorities have not yet publicly commented on the specific failure to respond to these claims.
