Department of road transport conducts inspections in Nicosia and Larnaca

Between March 16 and 22, 2026, the Department of Road Transport conducted targeted inspections in Nicosia and Larnaca to address illegal passenger transport. In Nicosia, authorities inspected 120 taxis, resulting in 14 reported violations. On March 20, 2026, a separate operation at Larnaca Airport examined eight private vehicles. These inspections led to evidence regarding two vehicles and the issuance of three infringement notices against two drivers and one company. The total amount of fines issued reached 8,250 euros. The department stated that illegal passenger transport by private vehicles often lacks insurance coverage and involves unlicensed drivers, posing safety risks and potential overcharging. Officials advised the public to use only licensed taxis equipped with taximeters and to report suspicious transport activities via email.
