European Parliament event highlights under-diagnosis of migraine in women

On March 5, an event titled 'More than just a headache: Breaking the silence on under-recognised conditions' was held at the European Parliament in Brussels. Organized by The Parliament Magazine, the event featured findings from a large-scale study conducted by the European Migraine and Headache Alliance (EMHA). The research included 5,410 women from 13 European countries and focused on hormone-related migraines. The data revealed that 42% of women surveyed have never received an official medical diagnosis for their condition. Additionally, 68% of participants reported that they were never offered personalized treatment plans for hormone-linked migraine attacks. The report classifies migraine as a frequently misunderstood and under-diagnosed neurological disease. Experts emphasize that the condition significantly affects the personal and professional lives of women in their productive years. The findings aim to raise awareness among policymakers regarding these public health challenges.
