Greek Cypriot side proposes leadership meeting in April

The Greek Cypriot side has formally proposed a meeting between leaders to discuss the Cyprus issue within the month of April. This proposal was submitted through negotiator Menelaos Menelaou, with a response from the Turkish Cypriot side currently pending. President Nikos Christodoulides held a telephone conversation with UN personal envoy Maria Angela Holguin to discuss these developments. Government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the Greek Cypriot side maintains political will for the resumption of negotiations. He emphasized adherence to the UN-backed model of a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality as defined by UN Security Council resolutions. While the government rejected public confrontation with the Turkish Cypriot leadership, it reiterated a commitment to international law and the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus. The spokesperson noted that progress regarding Confidence Building Measures remains a focus of ongoing diplomatic initiatives.
