Ten-month-old infant hospitalized for abuse in Ilias
On Thursday evening, a 10-month-old infant was rushed from Ilias to the Karamandaneio Children's Hospital in Patras with multiple injuries. Medical staff identified fractures in the child's limbs, burns, and marks described as human bite marks, leading them to suspect severe child abuse rather than accidental injury. According to Michalis Giannakos, president of the hospital federation POEDHN, the child is also suffering from osteomyelitis and shows signs of both recent and older fractures. Upon the doctors' report, the Hellenic Police (ELAS) launched an investigation into the circumstances of the injuries. Reports confirm that the infant's mother has been arrested in connection with the case. The child remains hospitalized under medical care while authorities continue their inquiry into the alleged abuse. Conflicting local reports provided varying details on the exact nature of the marks, but all sources agree that doctors immediately alerted law enforcement due to the suspicious clinical presentation.
