Turkish aircraft activity recorded in the Aegean Sea
On March 27, 2026, seven Turkish military aircraft, including two pairs of F-16 fighters, a CN-235 reconnaissance plane, and two drones, entered the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR). These aircraft committed nine violations of Greek national airspace in the northeastern and southeastern Aegean and six violations of air traffic regulations. The flights were conducted without armaments, and no mock dogfights were reported. According to the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA), all Turkish aircraft were identified and intercepted by Greek fighter jets following established international rules and standard practice. The incident follows a period of relative calm in the region. Greek authorities continue to monitor the situation as part of regular aerial surveillance procedures.
