Omonia celebrates its 22nd Cypriot league title
Omonia Nicosia has officially secured the 2025-2026 Cypriot championship, marking the club's 22nd title after a five-year wait. The team’s dominance was confirmed following a 3-0 victory against Aris, with Ryan Mmaee emerging as the league's top scorer with 23 goals. The success has been attributed to the structural changes led by Stavros Papastavrou and the coaching of Henning Berg. However, the club currently faces a logistical challenge regarding its championship celebration party, originally requested for May 23, as the Ministry of the Interior has raised security concerns due to the proximity to the national legislative elections on May 24. While the team celebrates, reports indicate that most Cypriot clubs, including major ones, continue to struggle with significant financial debt, raising questions about long-term sustainability without European competition revenue. Omonia has also broken ticket attendance records, with 157,274 tickets sold across 16 matches to date. Club management is currently focused on preparing for the Champions League League Phase while addressing infrastructure and stadium development plans.
