Warner Bros announces new Lord of the Rings film projects

Warner Bros has officially announced the expansion of the Lord of the Rings film universe. Director Peter Jackson confirmed that the film The Hunt for Gollum, directed by Andy Serkis, is currently in development and is scheduled for a 2027 release. Jackson noted that the project is progressing well, with the screenplay in advanced development. Additionally, a second project titled The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of the Past was revealed in collaboration with television host Stephen Colbert. This new project aims to adapt content from the first six chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring, specifically covering the narrative arc from Three Is Company to Fog on the Barrow-Downs. These chapters were notably absent from the 2001 film adaptation. Stephen Colbert is reportedly working on the development of this story alongside his son.
