Cyprus Parliament approves budget for the Cyprus Sports Organization
The Parliament of Cyprus has passed the 2024 budget for the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA). While initial reports mentioned 60 million euros, official documentation specifies the amount as 60,641,150 euros in both revenue and expenditure. Independent Member of Parliament Alexandra Attalidou opposed the bill, calling for a institutional restart and questioning whether public funds are being used effectively. In contrast, DIKO MP Christos Senekis highlighted the board's support for refugee clubs and confirmed plans for stadium upgrades monitored by monthly review meetings. DIPA representative Alekos Tryfonidis emphasized the need for transparency in sports federations, the management of school facilities, and the reconstruction of the Makario Stadium. ELAM representative Sotiris Ioannou underscored the social benefits of sports for youth. The budget is balanced, ensuring that expenditures do not exceed total projected revenues.
