Cyprus parliament approves 60.6 million euro budget for the Cyprus Sports Organization

The Plenary of the House of Representatives has approved the annual budget for the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA), totaling 60,641,150 euros. Independent MP Alexandra Attalidou voted against the budget, citing a need for institutional reform and questioning the transparency of public fund allocation. Conversely, representatives from other parties highlighted positive developments, including the upgrading of stadiums for refugee sports clubs following commitments from the organization's board. It was announced that progress on these stadium upgrades will be evaluated through monthly meetings. Alekos Tryfonidis of DIPA emphasized the need to implement codes of transparency in sports federations and noted plans for the reconstruction of Makario Stadium. Sotiris Ioannou of ELAM advocated for expanded access to school sports facilities for public use outside of school hours and called for the upgrade of the GSZ stadium. The session focused on balancing the development of sports infrastructure with institutional accountability.
