Nicosia Municipality launches stray cat welfare initiative

The Municipality of Nicosia has implemented a new animal welfare initiative, installing 21 feeding stations for stray cats across all municipal districts. The project includes two specialized feeding areas located at the Pedieos river and Olympiados Park. The initiative is supported by Cosmos Insurance as the main sponsor and relies on a system of controlled, volunteer-managed feeding to ensure hygiene and animal health. During the launch event, founder Maria Arkoudi demonstrated the proper use of the stations, with participation from local kindergarten children. Additionally, the municipality introduced the 'Nicosia Pet Friendly' online platform to promote responsible pet ownership, adoptions, and animal welfare awareness. Mayor Charalambos Proutzos emphasized that the program aims to protect public health and maintain the urban ecosystem, while also noting the importance of sterilization. Cosmos Insurance CEO Kyriakos Tyllis affirmed the company’s commitment to supporting urban quality of life through this cooperation.
