Cyprus hosts the 2026 FIDE candidates tournament

The Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort in Peyia, Paphos, is hosting the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 from March 28 to April 16, 2026. This is the first time such a high-level chess event is taking place in Cyprus. The tournament features 16 elite chess players competing in both open and women's categories, with matches starting on March 29. Official live broadcasts are available through the venue's website at 16:30 local time. An open-air fan zone will provide daily activities, including masterclasses and lectures, throughout the event. Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis highlighted the event as evidence of Cyprus's status as a secure and competitive tourist destination. The Cyprus Chess Federation noted this is the second major chess event held in the country.
