Cypriot political parties meet to discuss regional cooperation and health measures
On Thursday, Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties met at the Ledra Palace hotel in Nicosia under the auspices of the Slovak embassy. The representatives issued a joint statement calling for enhanced cooperation on the island to address an ongoing outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. The parties emphasized that the island is a single ecosystem and urged the full and effective implementation of EU regulations across all areas of Cyprus. Discussions also covered regional security, specifically the escalating tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran. The participants expressed concern over the impact of global conflicts and described geography as destiny. Furthermore, the parties addressed the presence of British sovereign base areas, labeling them as a colonial legacy that could expose island communities to external security risks. The meeting concluded with an urgent appeal for peace and a unified call for collective action against common threats such as disasters and diseases.
