Health Insurance Organization announces direct access to neurologists for patients with MS
Effective March 27, the Health Insurance Organization (HIO) has established a new category for chronic patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis or neuromyelitis optica. Beneficiaries in this category are now permitted to visit specialist neurologists directly without the requirement of a prior referral. The initiative aims to improve the monitoring and clinical management of these patients by their attending physicians. Patients classified under this category will be required to pay a co-payment of 6 euros per visit to a neurologist. This amount replaces the standard 25 euro contribution fee, provided the patient has not exceeded their annual co-payment limit and does not fall under an exemption category. Interested beneficiaries are advised to consult their attending physicians for further details on the implementation of these changes.
