Court of Arbitration for Sport rules in favor of Majeed Waris against Anorthosis
On February 23, 2026, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) issued a final ruling regarding the appeal filed by footballer Majeed Waris against Anorthosis. The court partially accepted the player's appeal, increasing the compensation amount previously set by FIFA. Anorthosis is now required to pay approximately 155,000 euros, which covers unpaid wages and penalties for payment delays. The club management stated that this obligation was already included in their financial planning and they intend to reach a settlement with the player. Meanwhile, Anorthosis spokesperson Stella Markou emphasized that the club's primary goal remains financial survival. The administration aims to raise 300,000 euros through a financial support platform to stabilize the club's budget. Additionally, the club has reported improved sporting performance, which has helped alleviate some pressure on the team. Management and coaching staff expressed satisfaction with the current squad's quality, noting that it is sufficient to maintain stability.
