CAS rules on Majeed Waris case against Anorthosis

On February 23, 2026, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) issued a ruling regarding the appeal filed by footballer Majeed Waris against a previous FIFA decision. The court partially accepted the player's appeal, resulting in an adjustment of the compensation amount previously set by FIFA. Consequently, the football club Anorthosis is now required to pay approximately 155,000 euros to the player. This total amount covers outstanding wages as well as additional penalties accrued due to payment delays. Anorthosis officials stated that this development was anticipated and factored into the club's financial planning. The club management has indicated that it intends to pursue a consensual settlement with the player, similar to over forty other cases resolved by the team recently. Negotiations between the two parties are expected to take place in the near future to finalize the financial arrangement. The club aims to resolve the matter definitively through this agreement.
