HBO Max releases first trailer for the new Harry Potter television series

HBO Max has released the first trailer for its upcoming television series based on the Harry Potter books, produced by Warner Bros. Discovery. The project, first announced in April 2023, is planned as a decadal initiative with each season covering one volume of J.K. Rowling's series. The first season, titled 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,' will consist of eight episodes. Sources differ on the release date, with some reporting Christmas 2026 and others suggesting a move from 2027 to late 2024. The cast features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron, with John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Francesca Gardiner serves as the showrunner for the production. The series aims to provide a more detailed adaptation of the original novels than the 2001–2011 film franchise, which earned 7.7 billion dollars globally.
