Unsettled weather and African dust forecast for Cyprus through the weekend
The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued warnings for a period of unsettled weather, including rain, isolated storms, and the presence of African dust. The dust phenomenon, stemming from cyclonic activity near Egypt and Libya, is expected to remain in the atmosphere through Sunday, with varying concentrations peaking between Thursday and Saturday morning. Temperatures, which recently reached unseasonably high levels of up to 30°C in some areas, are forecast to drop significantly by Saturday, falling below seasonal averages. From Friday through Sunday, weather conditions will involve increased cloud cover, local showers, and potential thunderstorms, particularly in mountainous regions and the eastern half of the island. Wind speeds are expected to fluctuate between 3 and 5 Beaufort, occasionally reaching 6 Beaufort in coastal areas during storms. Sea conditions will range from slight to rough throughout the period. Residents are advised of the possibility of muddy rain due to the interaction between atmospheric dust and precipitation.
